Bleaching Roots

Q:My hair is currently a very light, silvery blonde which my hairdresser dyed for me. However i have 3cm dark brown roots now which i would like to bleach back to a silvery blonde myself. How do I make sure my bleaching is even from root to tip and prevent it from going orange?

A:Start with a strand test so you can get a good idea of how long you'll need to leave the bleach on for. Also when applying the bleach, keep in mind that the centimetre of hair closest to your scalp develops faster than the rest of the hair due to the heat from your scalp so you should apply bleach to this area last. It's quite a complicated dye job because not only do you need to get an even bleach job, your blond shade will also need to be even. Again you'll need to do a strand test as there's a good chance the previously silver blond hair could go bluish if you apply the colour all-over. If in any doubt have the hair dresser do your touch up.
