Can you clarify that? Are the red spots on your scalp like burns? Or is it that some of the bleach has leaked through the cap and coloured the hair underneath?

You could try looking for a thicker bleach. One I use, L'Oreal Platinum, has a consistency of whipped cream and doesn't thin as it develops. I've noticed a lot of other bleaches become more prone to dripping after 15 minutes or so.
Another option is to paint the bleach on your hair further from the holes in the cap. Your highlights won't be as close to the scalp but it should avoid spots occurring.
