Hello, I was hoping I could get some advice on this. I'd like to take my hair from it's current purple state to white, and I'm not sure what the best method would be. I've read that after bleaching, you'd want to add a purple toner, but what if your hair is already purple?
I'd probably get it professionally done, but the places I've gone to either couldn't do it after saying they could, refused to dye hair white, or cost over $100 to even attempt it. (if anyone knows anyplace in the orlando,fl area i'd appreciate the recommendation)
I'm just not sure if I should buy bleach kits and go at it and see what happens, or if I should get a toner stripper or what. Any advice would be great.
Thanks

You usually can't go straight to white just by bleaching (or if you did, your hair would break first). If you hair is pretty vibrant (not faded much) then I'd first suggest removing the colour using a colour stripper, and get as much of it out as possible.

Next step: Bleach it as light as you can. Don't bother getting the yellow out yet, but get it a lighter yellow/white mix. Try to bleach out any oranges and stuff.

Finally, grab a white toner. This is basically a diluted purple or blue, and it cancels the yellow tones out (purple is the opposite of yellow). If you can't get a toner, you can try using a lighter purple and diluting it using conditioner.

    Welcome to the forums
How soon do you want it white? If you can wait a couple of months it should wash out to a nice white colour by itself, particularly the violet parts.
If not you could bleach it. Do a strand test first to check what colour it's going to go - the magenta shade may go bright pink if you bleach it.

    This might help. http://haircrazy.info/beginnerguides/bleach-bathing/

A while ago I had my hair a sort of lilac colour and it faded out to a really good white so don't worry if you can't get it pure white - light purple should fade out to a good shade.

Haha, thanks. I've been watching these forums/ browsing the gallery for a while, but yeah, that was my first post :)
I tend to get a little impatient when it comes to waiting for hair dye to come out- so I might try that bleach bathing thing out. It's kind of interesting how this dye has been washing out- I had used a different purple years ago and I recall it washing out to a grey, but for some reason, special effects deep purple has been turning into that pinkish color you can see.

Randomness- thanks for the advice. I managed to get that info on the how to get your hair white article on this website- I just wasn't sure if the bleaching process would be different when coming from hair that was already purple. Or if it would be better to use a color stripper as opposed to bleach.

I'm not sure if I have the guts yet to try this or not- so we'll see. :)

yeah deep purple is a pain to get out because it lasts so long.
When I attempted to bleach it out it turned a pinkish.
After about 2 weeks of continuous washing every day that pink is gone now.

    But its a pain

Just wanted to update and say it was sucessful. I did bleach bathing and then three days later used a Raw white out kit and got my hair white. I think having my hair purple beforehand might've helped out the process a ton.

    Looks great!
I was curious as to how your hair's condition came through. Is it damaged at all? Dry? Or did it all bleach/tone out ok without any adverse effects?
