Hey. I know this summer I'm planning on going to at least two music festivals.
One is Ink-n-Iron in Long Beach, CA. It's a psychobilly/rockabilly music and tattoo festival. They also have a car show, pinup contest, and some other stuff. That is June 6-8. I'm probably going on the 8th for my birthday. One day short of being legally able to get a tat though. Too bad :( But I get to see one of my favorite bands play-Mad Sin. And A bunch of other great bands that I like.

The other is Hootenanny in Irvine, CA. That is another psychobilly festival. This one is only music. it's on July 5 one day only. Going to be hotter than hell there. Ahh. But I'm looking forward anyway. Mostly going to see Tiger Army and Guana Batz, but this one as well has many other good bands.

So I'm wondering what music festivals (if any) whatever are you guys planning on going to over summer?

Or any other similar events that you are going to...

I wanted to go to Warped Tour because the venue is really close to me this year.
However, I've noticed a lot less of my favourites are playing.
And all these bands that I either don't like or never heard of seem to be taking over.
I believe Pennywise and Reel Big Fish are playing but I know the sets are only half an hour.
Just doesn't seem to be worth the 50 bucks to me.

I'm not sure if I'm going to any festivals this year. I tend to shy away from big venues since I don't really like crowds all that much. I might go see Tiger Army, but it's not part a festival per se, just a few bands on their own.

There's a Ska vs. Hardcore show - a bunch of bands I've never heard of, but it sounds somewhat promising.

We've got Summerfest, which is a huge music festival that runs for 2 wks. from the end of June until early July. Sometimes there are good bands, other times, not. Most of the time people go walk around, people watch & eat. In years past, it seemed like they were booking less current bands and more old rock n roll acts like REO Speedwagon & Journey. Hopefully, that will change.

Plus, we've got a festival every weekend. At least one. So there's always something to do, even though it's expensive and they keep raising ticket prices!!!

    Edit:
Ha, I just went on the web site, and They Might Be Giants are playing opening night!!! Woo hoo!

I haven't any plans. The only one around here I might be interested in is T in the Park but it's a bit pricey for me at the moment. I wouldn't have minded seeing deus again though.

Hopefully there will be a few gigs on in Edinburgh during the festival or I might go to a couple of comedy shows if there aren't any bands playing that I want to see.

There's a festival just outside Athens in July called Rockwave Festival, which has all sorts of rock (and other kinds) of bands. I think The Offspring, Manu Chao, Flogging Molly (and others) are going to be here this year. But I'm interested in going for the metal day, because I want to see Judas Priest (other bands like Opeth and Within Temptation will be there, too) and because I don't really care for the non-metal days.

Don't think I will go, though, since it's 60 euros and I don't think I can part with that much at the moment.

There's also an Iron Maiden gig but money's the problem again. :p

I seem to find all the good festivals are abroad. All the half decent local folk (really small heavy metal bands at festivals are usually really small for a reason so I don't look for small metal festivals) ones are in the middle of my exam period
I'd have loved to have gone to Roadburn in Holland, and the festival with Opeth and within temptation near you sounds good, Battlesheep.

I'm sure Warped is around me as usual but I feel old going there. The average age seems to go down every year, while I get older.. so I've never even been, but oh well.

There's a fun one where my parents live, but its about an hour away and I'm too busy to go really. its called Common Ground - sounds a lot like what cancankant described with Summerfest, but in addition to some classic bands there are some good current rock bands thrown in too.

All in all I'm too broke and busy for music festivals this year -- though I'll still probably wind up at at least one renissance festival as usual.

We have Bristol Renaissance Faire here in Wisconsin. I've always wanted to go to the one in Texas. I've heard it's huge. We used to have Gen Con, but it's since fled to Indianapolis. Gen Con used to have pretty cool "after con" parties with bands and the like. We got tons of tourists coming for the con so it was pretty neat.
