I guess I'm new to the world of alternative hair dye, or even just hair dye actually. I've never dyed my hair ever before but now I want to get something like purple streaks in my hair.

The thing is I've just finished my exams for the year and have one more year of school and if I was to go back next year with purple hair, they'd chuck me out.

I've asked my salon what they can do for me and the girl said they bleach and use Crazy Colors. I hear it fades quickly, does anyone know roughly how quickly it fades?

I'm wanting a way to dye my hair where I can fade the colour out by the end of the summer and have most of it cut out. I was thinking of tips at one point but I'm not sure whether I'd suit it.

Just wondered if anyone had any ideas for me? I'll attach a pic (the light isn't too great, but my hair's an auburny shade of brown naturally) :)

Thanks!!

A rather plain looking me =P

well if you want streaks you wont be able to cut them out. it may go over your natural color and fade faster that way, but it wont be as bright or noticeable. you would have to bleach the streaks and then add the color. and right before school you could get a dye that was your natural color and it would probably cover the purple.

why would they kick you out?

Be very open and honest with who and what you are. If people still like you, fine, if not, that's their problem.

^School's *uniform policy*

It's a Christian-based school so anything like 'weird hair colour,' too many piercings etc. aren't allowed :/

As xCrazyColorKidx mentioned, your natural colour is probably too dark to get a very bright, noticeable colour, so you'd have to bleach it to get a vibrant purple. On the other hand, some purples are dark enough to get a noticeable difference even with dark hair.

If you want your natural colour when you go back to school, either you have to do it over your natural colour and hope it fades back (some brands/colours don't let go easily) or you can dye over it with a 'natural'-colour dye that's similar to your current shade.

Other issues aside, I just want to point out that Punky Plum holds on to your hair for dear life, not fading at all really when you wash it, but disappears *completely*, like magic ink, within *seconds* of putting bleach on it.

Punky Plum is a gorgeous royal purple. It looks best on well-bleached hair. Beware of using it on very yellow or orange hair, as the colors will cancel and give you something muddy-gray.

I've personally used only the gel version that comes in a tube, but I'm pretty certain the dye in the cream version in the tub is identical. It's just the inert goo it's in that's different.

I'd go for a pale purple - either lilac or lavender and it should be gone by the end of the summer holidays. Violette lasts for ages and I think it would still be noticeable 6-8 weeks down the line.
As a few other people said you'll need to bleach it pale blonde but if you go for a pale purple it should be back to pale blonde by the end of the summer.

SFX Pimpin' Purple is a lovely purple, but that also lasts forever. And then when you bleach it out it turns pink.

So you might wanna stay away from that

Dye generally fades very fast when dyed over unnatural hair. I think streaks would suit you and purple streaks in brown hair generally looks good in my opinion :)

I know that darker purples like Deep Purple look gorgeous on natural hair, but that'll last forever. Look for a manic panic or other kind of color that's known for not lasting as long and do some streaks or chunks or whatever you want - like hakusa said, it'll fade a lot faster on your natural hair, since its less porous.
What helps me pick out a color is reading the reviews on this site from certain brands. You should look at which purples tend to fade quickly (typically rated lower too).

Another tip is that red pigments are much harder to get out of the hair, so if you choose a blue toned purple I think it will fade a bit faster 8) But I'm not 100% sure :P

Ey, and by the way I don't think you should care what your school would think of the hair ;D
