Ok, heres the deal. i dyed my hair bright pink for prom, but i had to wash it a few times cause of my greasy hair.....SO i had some of the pink dye left over and my friends mom offered to do it for me, so i felt in safe hands, cause she used to be a hair dresser

THEN

She tips out the dye and says there isnt enough to do my hair, so to stretch it out she added SHAMPOO!!!!

Now i SWEAR yu had to add conditioner.....NOT shampoo, cause its crazy colour, and its a conditioning hair dye right?

so i had this pink hair dye/shampoo muck on my hair for like two hours.....washed it of and it was still a barbie pink ¬¬

So, my theory is that cause she added the shampoo it totally messed around with the dye and it wouldnt stick to my hair.

Can someone confirm or bust my theory...asap?????????

Cause i feel like half a bottle of pink hair dye has just gone down the drain!!!!!!!!

If you dilute it with conditioner you'll get a lighter pink, so if your current pink hair colour isn't much lighter than that, it might not make much difference. I know my hairdresser dilutes bleach with shampoo, but that's a completely different thing, I don't think it will work the same with a semi-permanent colour. It's a completely different reaction going on. Second, I can just say that when hairdressers say they don't have enough dye it usually means, it's not enough for a hairdresser to dye your hair, but it's enough for someone who's not. They tend to use much more dye because they do everything faster and just slather the dye on the hair to get done quicker. So they use more dye to cover every part they don't go through. At least that's my experience. Whenever I dye my long hair on my own I use like 1 1/2 bottle, while a professional uses 1 bottle just to do the few cm near my roots! :S

yeah but my hair dresser used......well, for easiness ill say the bottle was 100mls, and MY hairdresser used like 55mls, leaving 45mls left......a blob of conditioner woulnt of done much to the colour....im talking about a small teaspoon.....to bump it up to 55ml

Between you and me, i didnt think she was very good.... she slopped loads on my ears.........oh my.......OMG ive just thought of something!!!! I had that shampoo hair dye muck on me for ages.....and that included the top of my ears, and it didnt stain em!!!!!! i think she buggered up the colour......

*cries* i didnt get the colour i wanted for prom :(

If I was you I'd ignore your friend's mum and either buy some more dye and apply as normal or if you have to mix it, mix it with conditioner or even water. The colour won't be as vibrant as applying it direct.

Since it was 100ml and she complained the dye wouldn't be enough, why didn't she use the whole bottle instead of using half of it, mixed with shampoo?

Since you intend to use like a teaspoon of conditioner in 45ml of dye, I don't think you'll have trouble. Just maybe a little less vibrant result, as Jude said.

Oh, i dont mean it was 100ml. it was slightly less than half a bottle of Renbows Crazy Colour......My normal hair dresser did all my hair ( minus the blonde for effect ) pink with like 55% of the bottle.........a small amount of condititon or even water as Jude said, wouldnt of done much to the colour, and it would of came out better than what she did.

I think whats annoyed me the most is that half a bottle of hair dye was wasted...and i treat hair dye like gold!!!
