I just made a trip to the drugstore to buy color-safe shampoo.

...with freshly dyed green hair! And I couldn't even look the cashier in the eye!

Good-bye self confidence! Hello again, shyness and possibly social leprosy!

I've had unnatural colors before -- blues, purples, and an amazing pastel turquoise. BUT for the last two years I've been dyeing my hair permanent red, a "natural red" from the drugstore that was dark, vibrant, and sultry. And I rocked that color, fosse eye make-up, blood-red lipstick and all.

Re-adjusting to all the staring and heckling is hard! HOW DO YOU GUYS DO IT?? No, seriously. I need some empathy to build up the courage to go out in public again!

If it makes you feel any better when I had green hair, I made the mistake of wearing a green shirt that said Think Green, promoting green earth. A cashier decided that it would be a great time to make fun of my hair in reference to my shirt. I was just thrilled by the joke :-).
Just remember you wanted funky hair, and the attention isn't bad, most people are interested but not mean. Personally I like standing out and if no one notices then oh well, but more people will like your hair and be nice than be rude.
Besides if you were willing to rock out the red makeup and all why not rock the green? Be the best with green hair, rock the look, embrace the color and love it or change it just be happy.

Color makes you beautiful, so taste the rainbow.

thankyou thankyou :D

I'm slowly regaining confidence... I think I just need to find a shade of green that complements my coloring; right now I look like an oompa loompa :/

And good luck to you with your foray into blue-green!

It just takes a bit of getting used to. Soon enough you'll stop noticing people staring again. It also helps if you develop a few comebacks for when people comment.

I agree, you'll get used to it after a while. It's just the initial shock of feeling like a bright beacon. :p As for clothes, try to find something to wear that you feel compliments your hair colour and you feel comfortable in.

I kind of felt this way when I colored my hair Napalm Orange. It's SO BRIGHT. Everybody made comments about it. It's good and bad. I don't mind attention, but I totally understand. Give it a few days.

By the way, I am a dyehard *LOL* and I couldn't help but STARE (good thing I was in my car) when I saw an older biker type (60ish???) guy walking down the street here in Milwaukee with BRIGHT Fluorescent Yellow hair & BEARD! It was wild. I actually was staring because I was trying to figure out if it was real or some sort of spray/gel. It looked pretty cool, too.

I only felt a little self-concious when I first did my hair like 2 or 3 years ago. Whenever. Then I got used to it quickly and although I've taken some breaks from dying, everytime I redo my bright colors at first I just think I look strange, but after a day or so I'm loving it again.

Really, I don't think it matters what other people think, as long as you love it you shouldn't feel embarrassed.
Also, the fact that you don't like the color of hair for your skin may be a factor adding to your self conciousness. Find a shade that you absolutely love. Find a green top or something that you think looks great on you and find that shade or something similar.

Heres my Hair horror story - but it got me loving to use crazy colours!

I have always had crazy hair, in high school I dressed more like a boy...and still do LOL, so I needed to keep the feminine hair, I wanted my hair long and blue.
I went to my hair dresser, b/c I know her personally I said do w/e looks good to you, but keep it long - BAD IDEA.
She ended up cutting the top layer of my hair and bangs super short, like ridiculously short and puffing it up, while leaving the underneath long.
    I looked like a poodle.

So I said I didn't like it - the only way to fix it was to cut all my hair short like the top layer.
At this point she had already bleached it to be dyed so it was gunna look CRAZY no matter what.
I ended up with 2 inch long hair died Lime green - the only colour she had left.
I looked like I was a little boy from the 80's IMO.
The next day of school people were blown away but I ended up getting a lot of positive comments, after that I kept spiking it and dying it crazy colours until it grew out to be long and now I can't go back to brown or any tame colour!

You will get used to it and end up loving it, I always go through a period of shock (and sometimes try n hide my hair) when ever I make a big change on it, just takes some getting used to.
