A while back I color-stripped my hair with Loreal Color Zap, transitioning from SFX red to fishbowl blue. The fishbowl didn't take at first, so I added some ultraviolet from Manic Panic to deepen the color, then slapped some Iguana Green on the roots.
The color was fantastic, both the blue and green lasted awhile with minimal fading. Problem is, now I want to remove them and get my hair light enough to tone blonde, and the color will not come out. I've color stripped it again and all I get is a really light lilac-silver color.
If I bleach my hair it might cause breakage, so I might just walk around for a little while with this strange lilac/white hair and pastel green roots...
Anyone else have problems with (usually) fast-fading colors sticking to their hair? Does it have anything to do with excess porosity?

You could try a bleach bath, ie mix up a batch of bleach and dilute it 50:50 with shampoo. Apply that to your hair for 10 or 15 minutes and wash out. It should help lighten the colour but if you're worried about damage try a strand test.

I always find with hair colour that the last part of the fading process seems to take the longest.

I did a strand test today for the bleach and there was breakage on the ends, so I decided to just dye over it with some leftover reds.
The color took really well, and didn't turn out muddy from the pastel green, thank god.
When my hair grows out I'll have to try the bleach bathing, because eventually I want to return to blond, so thank you Jude =)
But has anyone else had that problem? Of all things I did not expect the remains of Fishbowl and Iguana Green to stick to my hair so tenaciously.

Oh geez. I had the same problem with Fishbowl, I actually bleached my hair and it still stayed a silvery color. I can't remember what I finally did to get rid of it, I probably just dyed over it also.
