The other day, I got the idea to try to dye my hair coral-colored - medium pinkish orange. I don't think I've seen it before, and I can't imagine why, because I think it would make a fun hair color. The way I'm planning on doing it is mixing Hi-Octane Orange and Atomic Pink (both Special Effects) and diluting the mixture with conditioner. I've never tried either of these colors, so if anyone has an objection or an idea for a better method, please let me know!

Has anyone done or seen coral-colored hair before?

Also, I've seen from reviews and pictures that these two dyes are both REALLY strong. Has anyone ever diluted such strong colors? I'm mostly curious about how long it would last.

Both of those colours are really strong. I'd imagine you'll need slightly less atomic pink than hi-octane but dilute very heavily. In fact I'd probably only add about a teaspoon of each colour to about 200ml of conditioner or toner. That might even be too much, I think you just need to add it slowly until you see a colour you like.

I think it will be really nice though. Maybe you could take before, during and after photos and write a photo story on this. I'm sure people would be interested

I got this color by bleaching out SFX Cherry Bomb hair color. I bleached this out on two different occasions and got a similiar color.

The second picture is in bright Caribbean sunlight !!!

Yes, that's about the color I was thinking of. Thanks for the pictures!

I think I'll try it some time. It probably won't be for a while, but I'll do a photo story when I get around to it.

i really don't think you want to mix hi-octane orange and atomic pink.

you'd end up with a CLASH of undertones, and it would look funny in bright light.

try a warm, light pink like MP pretty flamingo + very very small amount of orange-based yellow, like MP electric sunshine. THAT should produce a nice coral color. but if you must stick with sfx, i think you should go with cupcake pink. seriously.

i'd also like to bring it to your attention that punky colour made a shade called "deep coral" in their gelle formula. it's a shame that the entire line is being discontinued.

    What?!
Are they just getting rid of the gelle or the cream too?
It's a shame if they are, because they have unique shades like Lagoon Blue.
Yeah I know MP has Bad Boy Blue but their lighter colours suck.
I hope they don't discontinue Punky!

    Oh okay...that still sucks though.
Hopefully you can find another dye that you like just as much.
