If you can get your hair in a ponytail you can have dread falls as they wrap around the top of the ponytail.
There will be a how-to coming for the site soon

My hair is pretty short, about 4 inches at the longest. I can make a small bun and then attach the fall to that. I haven't tried two falls yet (pigtail style).

Roving is pretty lightweight, so if you can get your hair into ponytails, you should be okay.

I also wear a thick dreadband when I wear a fall. Otherwise the sides of my hair show and look weird.

*Edited to add*: You can also try putting a pair of old tights/pantyhose over the buns/ponytails to give them some more surface area. My bun is really small and wrapping the foot section of old pantyhose around it a couple of times gives the elastic something to grip on to. When you do two buns, you can wrap the legs around the buns in a figure 8. There are tutorials and better explanations out there on the web!!!

Try a website that makes falls...they usually have tips on wearing them no matter how short your hair is.

I haven't tried them on hair that short, but as stated previously, as long as you can put your hair in a ponytail, you can wear falls. The ideas cancankant suggested are really good, the more the falls have to hold onto, the better you can make them look. I wrote an article about making falls for the site, but it might be awhile before it goes up. It's not too tough though, just time consuming You can also braid wool roving dreads into your hair the same way Jude describes putting Elysee star dreads in, in her article about that. I'm working on trying to figure out how to make a wool dread wig, but no success on that note yet.

I've also seen a good article/tutorial on how to make a headband with fake "buns" attached to it. You anchor the falls around those. Works well for people who have too little hair to make the traditional way work.
