I deeply and desperately want long hair. I just can't do it though. Fate and the heat work agianst me every year it seems.

I am one of "those people". I want long hair but then summer rolls around, or I just get bored if I'm being honest, and I whip down to the local salon and have them hack off my hair. The initial cut leaves me feel liberated and cute. After that, I wish I had NEVER done something so stupid and when the cut starts to grow out becuase I'm wanting my long hair back, I feel even worse because of how bad it looks.

So my question(s) to Haircrazy at large is(are) this. How do you people with long hair resist cutting it all off? Is there some secret key I'm missing? You all must have had short(er) hair at some point, so what keeps you from going back to that? Do you think that all the work of having long hair is worth it? (o.O that started out as ONE question....)

I've gone through various lengths of hair throughout my life.
Usually I chopped off my long hair because I was sick of the maintenance, I actually wanted it short, or because it was really damaged.
The last time I had long hair was three years ago, and though it was a bit damaged I didn't want it short again.
But I went to this psychotic hairdresser who practically hacked it all off when I just asked for a trim!
Ever since I haven't had long hair because I started bleaching and using crazy colours again.
I've had to get a lot of haircuts because of the damage from bleaching.
Right now my hair is down to my chin, and I would really like to have it long again.
Might take awhile though because my hair is still fried from January.
So I also share your long hair woes...
But I found that it would get boring too once I actually had it.
I kept it interesting by using pretty hair accessories, tying it up in different ways, and of course dying my hair.
Though I know that once I have long hair again I will get bored and it will get cut shorter.
There are others on here though that have had long hair for awhile though and have resisted to chop it all off.
So hopefully they'll have some words of wisdom for you.

I cut my hair from mid back length to jaw length last year. It was nice and I kept it fairly short (shoulder length) for about 6 months before I started growing it again. It's now about 3 inches past my shoulders.
I find that if when it starts feeling really horrible and I feel like cutting it off I get a good trim that seems to help. When it's just been trimmed it feels in nice condition again and sits better etc. I only get at most 1cm cut off which translates to about 1 month of growing my hair. I only cut it every 2 or 3 months so that's how I keep it growing. Just persevere. If you have any pics of you with long hair have a look at them when you feel like cutting it off

Hair dressers not doing a good job, that put me off getting it cut. And loving long hair.

I'm trying to grow my hair at the minute. It's about an inch above shoulder length at the longest bits right now.

I found an old memory card a few weeks back actually and I had long hair in some of the photos and it looked sooooo nice. It was about 3 years ago and back then I hated how wavy and thick it was and all I can think now is how gorgeous it looked! it's still wavy but I've had it thinned and short wavy hair is rarely a good look so I straighten it. I've promised myself I'll grow it til at least Christmas.

Hopefully the time frame, plus the photos and the hatred of being at the hairdresser that I've developed will encourage me.

I had long hair for a while. I dyed it many colors which kept my interest and got it trimmed to reduce split ends.

I loved my long hair. It got to mid back before I chopped it off to my jaw and that was a mistake! Now I'm growing it out again and its just past my shoulders.

I figured out that my hair this time next year, should I manage to perservere through with my growing out plan should be about 6.5 inches longer. That would be roughly nipple length in the shortest areas, and then I could get a nice trim to even it out. Hopefully.

I actually put a sign on the inside of my door at eye level telling myself NOT to cut my hair...6^_^ I hope it works. haha

Even better websurffer - when im in a growing phase, try and take you hair focus OFF dyeing and bleaching (if possible) and just try and make its condition your priority if you can.

Thought youd like a look here - http://community.livejournal.com/longhair/

    Lots of good tips

Thanks. I usually dye my hair less when it's long simply because of the effort involved. Although, I don't mind doing crazzy sutff to the ends, trying to dye all that hair just daunts me.

A friend recommended getting my hiar thinned a bit once it gets longer, because part of my issue is how hot I get under all my hair.
