I have been reading around a bit, andi noticed alot of people get talked out of dying there hair platinum. that, however, is not an option for me. You see, i am going to otakan in 9 days, and to pull off the costume I will be wearing, I need to dye my hair platinum.

now, down to buisness
my hair is naturaly curley. The person i am portraying has strait hair. (and if i decide to keep the color, i am going to continue straitening it, because thats what i do now.) After dying my hair, will the straitener's heat effect the dye? or even reduce the number of washes i have left?

the second question
I have naturaly dark hair. to pull off a platinum look, will i need to bleach it? (please note, i have always wanted my hair to be white, so i have no intention of just using a spray on from the halloween store. but then again, im not sure that that kind of thing exists....so.....)

well, i guess thats not a whole lot of questions. maybe im leaving a few out, i dont know. either way.

heres a few pictures. one straitened (lightley, its like 2 in the morning) and one not. (sorry for my fatness)

Straightening bleached hair can cause extra damage but it's not out of the question. That also answers your other question, yes you'll need to bleach. Here's some info:

ahhh thank you mizz jude. I have read the "bleaching your hair" article befor, but the "going white/silver" article is all new information to me. Its a shame silver/platinum/white are so hard to pull off. thats probably why i think its cool. (less generic)

I straighten my hair and parts of it have had one 30vol and two 40vol bleachings - as you can imagine, it's pretty knackered but not terminal.
I've been using Aussie 3 minute miracle in my dye, then washing out the dye and putting more conditioner on, then leaving it for a good half hour every time I wash it.
It's a bit of a performance but it makes it look/feel much better.
Also, I find when you bleach your hair your scalp becomes alot drier, meaning you don't have to wash it as often, and so don't have to straighten as often.
So you might find it's not as much maintainence as it sounds!!
    Hope that helps..
    love
    Xx.
