I have been having some problems spiking my hair. I have really straight, fine hair and it's really difficult. I've tried different gels and some wax and glue. Wax makes my hair look disgusting and gel just doesn't seem to hold. Glue works alright, but I'm not getting what I want with it. Do you have any suggestions?

    What length is your hair?
What kind of spikes do you want to achieve?

I put up my 7 inch mohawk with gelatine. You can buy it in a supermarket, it'll be near the cakes section. Put some in a bowl and add some hot water to it, stir it to a syrupy consistency (make sure it's not too watery, put enough gelatine powder to make it quite thick). Hold your hair how want it, and put on the syrup. Hold in position till it sets a bit, and use a hair dryer on the cold setting to really dry it. It'll take a while to dry completely, but after a 30 seconds with the hair dryer it won't budge, trust me!! It dries rock solid. We did my hair Friday night, I slept with it, and it still looks perfect.

I've got some Sure-Jell fruit pectin that I normal use for making jams, jellies, and other sorts of preserves. Would it work for spiking hair or am I going to need to go buy some of this knox gellatin stuff?

Any gelatin will do, just make it up nice and thick.

Do fake (read veggie) gelatins work then? That's cool if they do.

I have a small mohawk (3" I'd guess), which I spike using first wax to get it to stand up, then glue to get it to stay up. Sometimes I use putty in between to get it to stick together. I can't seem to get it to fan though, so I'm sticking with spikes for the moment.

I know you've tried glue and wax, so this maybe isn't too helpful, but its all i've ever used successfully, so I'm posting anyway...

tbh i never really got on with gelatine, im able to hold up my 7 inch mohawk with just hairspray and a hairdryer, and it was the same when it was smaller... im able to get it up in about 5/10 mins before uni now, in a perfectly straight fan (lots of practice)^^

i find a hair dryer melts the glue/wax and is counter productive...
