So, due to a bad haircut, I dyed my colourful hair brown black, to make the cut less obvious. However, my hair loved up the dye and is not black. I was wondering, would a light/medium brown permanent dye from a box have any effect whatsoever lihtening my dyed black hair a bit? or will my roots change and nothing else?

It will just colour the regrowth unfortunately and probably damage the black hair. I think a colour stripper is probably the way to go.
