Hey there...

I have to wait until I get my Christmas $$$ from my parents (yeah, I realize I'm 34...ha, ha, ha) because I'm low on funds, but I've been planning a tattoo from my right upper arm for about 6 months or so.

I'm looking to get a sugar skull or skeleton(s) with a Day of the Dead theme. I haven't decided yet...want input from an artist about placement issues, what will look best, etc. The only thing that remains constant is a Day of the Dead theme, most likely including flowers (hopefully marigolds, since they are the most prevalent in Dia de los Muertos).

Here are some pics....I've been using them for inspiration. I'm also a bit keen on a skeleton couple, but I'd want an artist to create something with a lot of movement and flair, not a static piece.

Ooh I can't wait to see how that turns out. I think it could look cool at the top of your arm, right at the shoulder. The roundness of the arm/shoulder joint could really bring out the shape of the skull.

Yeah, I want it on my arm (right)...I especially like the really crazy colored skulls on the top of the pile in the first picture. I have seen some really nice Day of the Dead tatoos, so I'm going to be super careful about who I pick to do this. I really want it to be BRIGHT and spastic and fun. I don't want it to be dark at all (spooky, frightening, whatever...)!

Even the third guy (skeleton) looks like he's dancing for joy (the dainty flowers help a lot...they're really sweet). I just love Dia de los Muertos. I wish we celebrated it here. There is a fairly decent sized Mexican community here and they do some events every year, plus there are a few restaurants that put up altars & the like.

I'm planning two tattoo's currently, a polynesian/asian foot tattoo a' la Calypso Tattoo, I'd love to go to their studio but its in belgium

    look at the prettyness :-

I'm also planning a large tree as a backpiece, Im still cumlating ideas for it, so I don't imagine it will come into fruition until 2010 at least!

It is being based it on Yggsdrasil, the old norse and germanic pagan world tree, as well as the celtic tree of life with some english "tree through the seasons" imagery. So yeah, its a visual representation of my genetic heritage!

Well it was either that or a sausage!

Those are gorgeous. It reminds me a lot of mendhi, especially with it being on the feet.

I had thought of something similiar (just based on Yggdrasil) in the past. I'm Norweigian, so I may do something to reflect my ethnicity as well someday. I've been thinking of a valkyrie ala Wagner recently, too or Hunin & Munin (ravens from Norse Mythology). Perhaps all 3, who knows. Tattoos are so expensive (but worth it) and I'm always semi-broke. Having house & car payments puts a big dent in your wallet.

Sounds familiar (the semi broke bit!) Sleipnir would be a cool tattoo... Im a real norse-nerd ;)

Mine will definately be Yggsdrasil based though, i'm a real tree lover. I'd like to incorporate lots of stuff into it.

Cool your part norwegian, ever been?

Im trying to reflect my (ready for this?) Finnoscanian/slavic/germanic/irish/(and a bit) britishness.

the joy of being a northern european mongrel

Talking of Dios de las muertos, there are some stunning tats kicking about of it:-

Yes, I did go to Norway about 12 years ago. I have always wanted to get back there, but it hasn't come up again. It's very expensive to travel there.

I'm mostly Norwegian (going to spell it correctly this time...I always mess it up...for some reason I like the extra "I" in there!) with a little German thrown in there for good measure. I still have relatives that live in both countries as well, which made it quite nice when we travelled in Europe (could have stayed in Germany, too, but didn't ...I'd like to get there someday).

I'm a big nerd for Norse stuff, too. I have a really nice set of Norse divination cards that give super creepy readings (much different than tarot for me...these tend to be spookily dead on in their advice).

I got a chance to look at the BME tats. They're all so cute. I love the Virgin of Guadalupe & the Indian woman. Great touches on traditional work. The third one is so sweet with the skeletal (sort of) dog. Oh, and the fact that it's HUGE (the whole back of a calf/leg). Lots and lots of work. Fantastic. Makes me want to go right now!!!
