I've been toying with the idea of temporarily weaving feathers into my hair (cause permanent weaving = bad idea. Wet feathers? Ew)...however, I really have no idea how to go about this.
Any suggestions?

I would say that you could put the feathers on one end of string, cord or ribbons and then attach the other end to a hair clip (like the small flat claw clips made for temporary hair extensions). You could possibly use elastics to secure the cord to the hair and then braid like usual.

This idea makes me a little nostaglic for the old "roach clips" which as kids we won at the fair. We erroneously thought they were clips for our hair. Little did we know.

Edited because I actually found a woman who makes feather roach clips...http://www.cramper.com/clips/clipsmain.htm. Who would have thought?

Sigh...takes me down memory lane and a little tv show called The Tribe... Well, I'm sure you could just use bobby pins, or little jaw clips.

They have BOTH wallpapers (five seasons worth) and a gallery of just cast photos, it's enough for any hair adventurous person. I've done some of these, but some are difficult.

Sorry for the secont post....but I forgot. There's always pipe cleaners.. its a bit kooky, but you can find them in all colors, which makes them easier to conceal or purposely contrast.

Wow.....now I really want to see that show!
And I have to agree, some of those hair styles look pretty insane. It's a shame I'd look terrible with dreads or I'd have an idea of how to go about this.

As for the pipe cleaners idea...I'm going for a subtle thing....or well, as subtle as feathers can be. Do you think that braces rubber bands would work? If I get the really little ones?

The small bands for braces would work, I think. They come in a bunch of colors, so you could match or contrast, whatever suits you.

The only problem with small orthodontic bands is, that I don't think they'd stretch far enough without snapping.

yeah, that could be a problem. If I can find a way for this style to work out I'll be sure and post pics though. Thanks for all the ideas ^_^

Those orthodontist bands actually stretch pretty far, it just depends on what size, the thinner ones stretch farther than the thicker ones but are more fragile. If you keep playing with the thicker ones though you can actually get them to stretch good. I just don't know how far you need them to get.

*edit* unless your talking about the bands that actually go AROUND the braces. Those would be a pain in the a$s. But if your talking about the rubber bands that they use to connect the top and bottom jaw by connecting it to the brackets, those are good. But i think they only come in clear...?

just so you know, wet feathers aren't as terrible as you think ^_~ we regularly do feather extensions at my shop, and i've had them attached via cornrows for several weeks at a time...they get wet just like your own hair, but return from the dead/limp after blasting them with a hair dryer for a few minutes ^_~

however, if you're not up to the challenge of daily care and want to attach them somehow, they can be glued or knotted/strung and attached to almost anything within reason...the easiest and closest to looking like a hair accessory [if that's what you are aiming for] would be to attach feathers to any string-like material you want to work with. here's how we've done it in the past:
