Well, there was a hair ideas/tips/tricks thread, so I figured a makeup thread would be nice, too! Just add yours and then we'll all be gorgeous.

Here are a few of my favorites:

1. Don't discount "theatrical" makeup when picking out stuff for everyday, clubby and fantasy looks. I have found that dry foundation (that you put on with a wet sponge) works great for getting a goth white color, just select a very pale color (not clown white) and apply. You can even use this as a "powder" as opposed to applying it wet. Just make sure you don't apply too heavily, it will look cakey.

2. I love making my own lipstick/lip gloss colors. Take whatever lipstick you like and apply it over a thin layer of gloss or lip balm and blot. Reapply a small amount of gloss if you need or want more shine.

3. Theatrical creme makes fantastic lipstick/eyeliner. You apply with a small lip brush. The color stays better and it's not difficult to lug around. I've never liked black lipstick, and always used black theatrical creme foundation for my lips when doing a full out goth look. Red always looks nice, too. Add lip gloss for a shinier look or blot for a more matte look.

I pretty much love theatrical makeup. I buy very little in the way of traditional cosmetics, especially when it's for club looks.

I second the theatrical make up! I love love love ben nye stuff. the creme liner as its called works for sooo many different things.

other trips are
USE A PRIMER!! i like spackel from laura gellar. my entire face (foundation, and smokey eyes) held though my now fiance proposing at my 21st birthday party, there were SOO many tears and when people arrived after the big moment, they had no idea i'd cried. i got home that night, ever once touching up my make up and it still looked fatastic.

for highly pigmented shadow looks USE A BASE on top of the primer. i put on a concealer (a creamy one from a decent line at Kohls applied using a concealer brush) all over my lid where shadow will go. then I pack on a neatral (or matching) colored shadow. NEVER EVER EVER do i get creases anymore.

WASH YOUR FACE EVERY SINGLE DAY. dosen't matter how drunk or tried you are, your skin will thank you for it. I try to keep make up remover/face wash wipes around, makes it a lot easier when you're not in a state for whatever reason, to want to fully wash your face, but it helps a TON.

match your foundation color to the color of the skin on your chest/neck, it will look much much more natural. if you feel you are too pale, lightly brush your 't' zone with a bronzer.

use blush on the apples of your cheeks, it makes you look younger and healthier every time.

curl your lashes before applying mascara, keeps form getting smushed together at the base of them, less spider eyes. especially if you use a brow/lash comb

ok thats probaly plently! but what i can i say, its new years day now, i'm a little bit tipsy and a little bit bored at 3 am. lol.

If you find sometimes your foundation cakes up a little on dry patches, mix it with a light moisturiser. Use more foundation for better coverage. It also gives you a more natural no-foundation look while evening out your skin tone.

Use matte eye shadows over the top of a pearlescent loose powder shadow (micro powder) to get a shimmery metallic effect. You can get unexpected colours which make interesting effects. E.g. if you use a shimmery white and put a matte black over the top you'll sometimes get a blue or purple sheen.

Anyone have any tips for stopping eyeliner smudging? I'm an expert with liquid eyeliner but I also like to use that really soft kohl type (the sort that comes in a twisty pen thing rather than ordinary kohl pencil) but if I've been smiling a lot it tends to start smudging on the lower lid. Foundation/powder doesn't seem to help keep it in place. Any ideas?

I find that if you put some liquid eyeliner under the pencil eyeliner it stops it from smudging. Or at least it works for me

Hey im not big on the theatrical makeup, but i do just LOVE funky colored eyeliner.
    But anyway.

    1. Putting some white eyeliner on the inside corners of your eyes help make you look more awake. If you're just putting it there i suggest taking your finger and smudging it a little bit towards the outside of your eye to give it a fading effect.
2.Green powder is amazing. I use it all the time after I put on tinted moisterizer to get rid of my red cheeks.
    3. For a cool effect take one color eyeliner and sut it from the middle of your eyelid/under your eye to the outer corner. and then take another color and put it from the inside corner to the middle. Smudge a little to blend. Or you can do one color on top and another on the bottom. *NOTE* for this i use the cheapo 99c pencil eyeliners that are made by like NYC or Wet&Wild.

    4. Curling your eyelashes before you put mascara twice makes them extra curly. Once at the roots and another time in the middle.

    5. Putting on Volumizing mascara and lengthinging mascara makes them extra big.

Back to Jude's question. I have no answer but I was wondering that too. But I put it on the inside of my eye, at the part that you can see if you pull down on your eyelid and look right between your eyeball and eyelashes, its always "melting" off.
My aunt told me a trick that if you get the sheap pencil kind and melt the tip with a lighter before you use it, and put it on when its still a little warm it works, but I tried it and I think its better when you use it on the outside of your eye. It has to be with a pencil though because if its the plastic resharpenable ones that you twist the plastic on the outside will melt. And please, don't use it right after you melt it, wait a second or two.
But if anyone has an answer to the inside of the eye help would be appreciated.

I usually will put some eyeshadow over the top of the eyeliner. You can use black or match whatever color your eyeline is. You could also drag some of the eyeshadow from your accent color over the top of it. I have kind of squinty eyes, so I am constantly repairing eyeliner when I use it. I've found the smudgeless types (I typically use Mary Kay, since I used to sell it) work a bit better for me than the cheap kohl pencils, but they're almost impossible to use for smoky eyes (since they don't smudge well).

As for the inside the eye thing, I've always been leery of doing it long term (i.e. more than a couple of hours), but I think it's something that needs repair often. For a picture or a party, you'll probably be fine. Past that, you'll need to reapply. The inside of the eye is still somewhat moist. You could try the smudgeless variety of eyeliners, just make sure not to clog your tear ducts.

The lighter trick makes me think of high school. That's what the metal chicks used to do.

Definately be careful of getting anything in your tear ducts. My mom once had her's clogged and she said it was so painful she was afraid to wear any eye liner or shadow for a really long time afterwards. its also very dangerous.

I still line my waterline since its a trick on you upper lid to make you lashes look thicker. I'm just careful not to go near my tearduct. I don't need to do it every day either since even after washing my face, there is still some stuck in my lashes, which still accomplishes the same effect.

Inside corner of your eye. Look on the upper and lower rims and you will see tiny holes. That is your tear duct . One reason putting eyeliner on the INSIDE of the eye rims is frowned upon is the clogging/blocking of the tear ducts.
