It's so much easier to help other people with their hair and give ideas but when it comes to my own hair it's just impossible.

Despite my age I have a load of grey hair which doesn't bleach well and tends to break. As a result my hair isn't in as good condition as it used to be and I think I'm going to have to stop bleaching it, or at least some of it.

Here's a fairly recent photo of my hair: http://haircrazy.info/timelines/Jude/2007/11/10/96/
Currently the purple is a bit washed out and my roots are about eyebrow length. I'm pretty fed up with it but stuck in a dilema about what to do with it.

So my question is; if you were me, what would you do with my hair?

I know you've mentioned a few times wanting to go back to black, so maybe leaving colors in highlight chucks through out your head, and dying the rest black? Then you would only have to keep up some roots, you could cover the gray well, but still have some bright colors. You could always try a light blue purple to cover up the fading plum, depending on how well it's fading. So do black with streaks of say SFX wildflower and if you have any gray peek out just say the wildflower faded. That's probably what I would do, either that or just do an undercolor and dye the top black and say to heck with roots.

Color makes you beautiful, so taste the rainbow.

I'm glad you suggested that. I'm seriously considering doing the top part black so I have less root maintenance. I've had a look at some old pics of me with black hair and it suits me. I just need to be decisive and go for something!

I think black too, youve got a lovely skin tone for the colour. You could always make a feature of the grey... if you were uber daring....

Yeah it's not quite at that "hey I've got silver hair" stage, it just looks a bit like really wiry highlights so I think I'll probably dye over it for now. I'm scared!

If your thinking black, why not still add jazz to the black by trying blue black which gives a healthier glow than flat black. Another idea that probally will work and had done myself. A friend/professional applied SFX Electric Blue and left on for 30 minutes. Then she added 1/4 inch highlights of blue black. In full sun my hair glowed electrically, and in darkness looked like superman's hair in the cartoons a dark black with a bluish tinge. This was about four years ago and many other haircolors later. Good luck with whatever you choose.

    Thanks for the suggestions everyone
I dyed it over the weekend and it's a nice glossy unnatural sort of black. I used L'Oreal Majirel in 01 black. So far so good!
I'll post some photos when I get my under colour sorted out. It's just plain blue but now the top part is black I want to do something more adventurous with the unnatural coloured part.
