I decided I'm going to dye my hair black for the summer.
So I picked up some MP Raven.
I was hoping to just apply it over my SFX Pimpin' Purple to give my hair a break from bleaching.
    Is this a good idea?
I'm thinking the worst that could happen is that the purple will show up more as it fades.
But that's just a simple matter of re-applying the dye so I'm okay with that.
Well, any thoughts or comments are appreciated.
    Thanks!

I think it will look good. You might even like the purple/black look & want to keep it.

I think it'll work because its easier to put dark colors over lighter ones not visa versa.
and like CCK said even if it does turn into a purpleish black it might still look cool.

When I think of Raven I think of black with like a blueish sheen. So adding Purple into it wouldn't look that bad at all. I say go for it.

I'm glad you two are on the same page as me.
I chose black so I could just cover everything up without damaging my hair even more.
It cringes at the thought of another bleaching right now, especially the poor ends.
I've been trying to grow it long again so I'm doing my best to avoid cutting it.
Right now it's roughly jaw-bone length, yay!
    ^_^

Ugh growing out hair is the biggest pain you could ever come up with. But sometimes taking a step back and trimming off the dead ends can actually help in the long run?

I agree with all, I think it will look good even if it fades a bit and the purple shows through.

Will trimming the ends help it grow faster, or will it just make it look healthier?

A question, since I have some MP Raven too and been thinking of using it if I get a job that has a problem with my hair. Will it be possible to dye unnatural colours again once you've put Raven? Will it ever fade enough?

My hair doesn't grow very quickly, so I only get it cut if it's absolutely necessary.
A trim will just get rid of the dead ends, it won't grow any faster than it usually does.
That's what I find happens to me anyways.
Battlesheep, I'm hoping Raven will come out of my hair.
I'm planning to go blue in the fall.
Because it's semi-permanent eventually it should.
Just might be tricky, like all darker shades.

Eh, don't want to start a fight. But when you trim your ends it DOES get rid of the dead ones, which in turn makes it healthier.
    And healthy hair grows faster.
But then again I'm talking about a trim when your ends are pretty bad or if they dont get bad once every 3 months or so.
When when I say trim I mean skimming off the ends. My hairdresser takes a trim to mean an inch. ugh I hate that.

Maybe that's true for some people, hence why I said, "That's what I find happens to me anyways.".
Anyways, it's also impossible to convince a hairdresser not to hack off more than a few inches.
Unless I could find someone who would snip off a tiny bit for me I rather just leave it.

Hopeless I think you should go for it. Is Raven not a bit on the brown side though? It's a long time since I had a tub in my possession but I had a feeling it looked brownish in the light. Either way I think it will look nice and will suit your colouring.

As for the trimming ends/healthy hair debate...
What you do to the ends of your hair will not affect the rate at which your hair grows. Cutting off split ends prevents further damage (the splits tend to travel up the hair so cutting them off prevents it getting worse) but it won't make it grow any faster or slower.
Eating healthily is really the only way that you may be able to make your hair grow faster but that depends on how bad your diet was in the first place. Hormones can affect the rate at which your hair grows but once it's past your scalp there's really nothing you can do to it to improve it - you can only prevent damage by using conditioner, avoiding chemicals and heat styling.
