brief history: my hair's traumatized. i bleached it to hell and beyond over the summer (from some-odd dark auburn) and the result wasn't noteworthy enough. i now shed more than my cat -- that's mildly frightening.

anyway, it's currently a blonde-yellow color with goldenrod roots because i've boycotted bleach and toner entirely. i want to go darker and am aiming at a bland light brown/dirty blonde that'll wash me out quite a bit.

i tried l'oreal preference in "medium ash blonde" a couple of months ago, and all it did was darken my roots and tone the rest of my hair to a sterling silver for two days.

that's when i decided that i needed help. what do i dooo?

oh, and my hair's completely dry at the ends. i got it trimmed a little while ago and it helped a lot, i also deep condition with 3-minute-miracle ANNDDD i've got a leave-in by aussie that i like to spray in whenever i've got nothing else better to do. will my bland brown add flesh to the skeleton, or am i doomed for the rest of eternity?

gee. sorry this was such a novel, i really need to learn how to get to the point.

don't you flan in the face

in case it's necessary, that's the current color (only yellower in person)

just take some breaks between coloring/bleaching hair.

i have damaged and dry hair too. i like to sleep with deep conditioner in my hair with a shower cap or plastic wrap and a bandana on my head or a towel on the pillow. Rinse it out in the morning and it feels awesome. I usually like to do it on clean hair so you don't have to shampoo in the morning.

conditioning is key.

as far as the color goes, you could probably try applying bleach only on the roots for a short time, try to get the lightness to match, and then try to color it again...or go to a salon.

hope it goes well.

You're probably still going to have some difference between the roots and the bleached hair when you next dye it because the dye will act differently on each base colour.
I'd try a light golden brown if the ash blonde went too silvery. Do a strand test first though.
