So me and my friends were fooling around last night, and my one friend crimped my hair with a flat iron.

First if you don't have straight hair straighten it.

Then take a flat iron and put it on your hair like you would go to striaghten but don't move it keep it in one spot. Then twist it so the iron is horizontal, hold it, then open the things. It'll leave a line and if you do it all the way down your head it looks mad sick.

You can also use a crimping iron. They actually still make those things! Some even have interchangeable plates, so that they're crimping/straightening/waving irons.

I grew up in the early-mid 80s when crimping was king. I was never any good at it, even though my hair is stick straight! My hair's pretty short, but if I found a crimping iron at a thrift store I'd probably buy it for old time's sake. I still have my curling iron, which I haven't used in a million years. LOL.

I have one of those things. It's awful, though. The plates snag your hair.

Thanks for the info. Maybe you could put a comment about that on the crimping article?

I can see crimping making a comeback because it's now retro

The method using foil to crimp gets you really tight crimps that you can brush out for biiiig hair, such a lot of effort though. I look really silly with big hair. I think my head is too big

I too look silly with big hair so for crimping I don't crimp the entire length of hair. Instead I do it at intervals (crimp-straight-crimp-straight etc). Brushing your hair when you've done it this way doesn't give you super puffy hair.

We were too poor for a crimping iron, so I'd braid my hair up in dozens of tiny braids after washing it and sleep that way. It gave the same look as long as the braids were close to the same size.

If I crimped my hair, I would have a bush. An ugly bush! My hair is very 80's all on its own... which was fabulous in the 80's...
