Current Hair: A faded purplish mess
Posted 7 months, 3 weeks ago

The Deep Purple I have on my hair, dyed almost 3 months ago is still very much there and pretty dark still, so it's preventing me from dying my hair lighter any time soon...

I'm currently trying very hard to fade it and it seems to be working on some parts: the ends have turned more pinkish, but the rest is pretty much the usual Deep Purple. And as my hair is quite long, it's quite a lot of purple. (The roots are purple too, as my electric blue has faded to purple, but that will fade easier, I'm sure.)

I'm washing my hair with dandruff shampoo and warm water and drying it with a blowdryer afterwards to help it get rid of the colour (poor hair, what you have to go through ). I don't think I'll be using such a long lasting colour again, hehe.

So has anyone had any experience with fading Deep Purple? Did you fade it or did you have to bleach it to lift the colour some? My hair is shiny (as it is straight), but is not in the best condition, so I'd prefer to try and avoid damaging it further. Will a bleach bath with say a volume 20 bleach damage it much? And will it help lift the colour any? Maybe I should keep trying to fade it, maybe wash it every day, even though it's a pain.

Sorry for the long post, it just feels like this colour is never coming out.

I found bath salts strip the colour out really well so maybe you could try soaking your hair in a solution of bath salts and warm water.

Bleach bathing will cause some damage but not as much as ordinary bleaching and should lighten it a bit. I think it will still be noticeably purple afterwards though.

Hmm... I think I'll try the one with the bath salts. Better do everything I can and leave bleaching as a last resort.

Last time I had purple, I put Vampire Red over the faded Pimpin' Purple which was still bright purple at some parts and covered it perfectly and gave a really bright red. Don't know yet what colour I'll use this time, but I hope that if I get the Deep Purple a bit more light, something like that will happen. *crosses fingers*

Since I was going to the beauty supply store to get more shampoo, I also got some bath salts... Strawberry scented!! Can't wait to try them! (On my hair, wouldn't do to eat them.)

    Thanks for the help!

if that doesnt work if you have a sally beauty supply store you could look for a dye remover. it isnt bleach so it wont damage your hair.i used it to get out black and it faded in some parts to a light brown and some a golden blonde. if your hair is bleached underneath all of the dye it should probably fade it to a pinkish color.

Be very open and honest with who and what you are. If people still like you, fine, if not, that's their problem.

It seems to have faded a bit more, I think the salts must have helped it a bit. Still mostly purple, but with more pink. I'll probably keep doing that.

We don't have Sallye's in Greece, but we have other local beauty supply chains, so I could ask there. Unless the dye remover is a Sally's product in which case it won't do much good.

I did some highlight on a friend's hair (her hair is naturally something like medium blonde) with Special Effects and Manic Panic dyes. She later told me that she accidentaly removed the highlights when she washed her hair with vinegar. I wonder if it will help. Has anyone tried vinegar on bleached and dyed hair, or shall I be the guinea pig?

I actually heard vinegar helps keep dyes in because it closes the hair follicle. That is probably why your friend's highlights seemed to have gone away. Bleach opens the follicles more and thats how color is stripped of your hair.

I'm positive that you can find another type of color stripper/remover at a local beauty supply store.

Hmmm... You're right, I googled it and it seems vinegar is like a natural conditioner. Smoothens hair and makes it shiny. I may try it sometime, see if it works.

And I tip I saw in one site: when you dye your hair with a semi-permanent like Special Effects or Directions and want it to last longer, rinse it right after dying it with white vinegar. No idea if it works.

Here's a bit about the effect of acids and alkalies on hair: http://haircrazy.info/hairscience/ph-hair/
