Heya, first time poster here :)

I'm dying my hair RAW's True Blue. I have two bottles of it (they were 75% off...so I got 2 bottles of dye plus 2 bleach for 14.03 :D) and am worried about it covering all of my hair. The toner I got with my bleach that's the same size I have PLENTY of extra to cover my hair, but the toner is MUCH thinner. The bleach, on the other hand, I needed extra of-but the bleach is much thicker!

I'm worried about running out of the thick dye before my whole head is covered. Is it safe to add water to the dye to make it more spreadable/less goopy, then let some of it dry out before putting the cap on as recommended?

In case you were wondering, the dye comes in 4 oz bottles (so 8 oz total) and my hair is as long as in the photo below.

For that matter, has anyone with my length of hair gotten away with using just 2 bottles?

If diluting doesn't work I could just leave part of it undyed, or just buy green dye off of a friend (she got some at the same time I did-7 bucks for 2 bottles. She decided she liked being blonde for now, though), but I would prefer to be all blue.

On a different note, I got very lucky when bleaching my hair. I went with the 40 activator because that's all that was available and at the time I didn't know just how strong it was. I put 30 activated stuff on my roots (I read the directions-no 40 on my scalp!), then put the 40 on the front of my hair the next day (ran out, so went with 30 for the back bit).

Just as my friend was starting the 3rd section of my hair (we divided my hair into 4 sections), I could hear a sizzling noise. I leaned forward so she could better get at the back of my head, and reached up to hold my bleached hair up and out of my face.

My hair was HOT.

I asked my friend if she could hear it; after a moment, she said yes, and I ran into the bathroom and doused it with cold water. Fortunately none of my hair fell out, and it was a perfect color. After a few minutes I washed out the other side of the front too. I then put them under the hand dryer until they were only slightly wet, then returned to doing the rest of my hair.

Take it from me-do NOT use a stronger strength than what you need! 30 was absolutely fine (though I should have left it in longer than I did-I was freaked out too badly by the 40 stuff) and I should have done my reading beforehand. Don't bother slapping my hand-believe me, I'm slapping myself!

Two bottles should be plenty of dye!

My hair is longer than yours and I tend to use about 1 and a third of a bottle that size.

strange the bleach actually heated up. That sounds like there was a reaction. Had you dyed your hair previously?

Yay! Thanks for the info :)

Nope. I hadn't done anything to my hair before. This was my first attempt at doing anything crazy-like. The only thing I do to my hair on a regular basis is straighten it with a straightening iron. Maybe it was my flat iron spray? It seems weird the bleach would react with it.

That does seem weird. I was wondering about the dye because some colourants contain metallic salts (usually gradual colourants and those spray on hair lighteners) which don't react well with bleach. It seems unlikely to me that it was the straightening spray. Weird.

Reading the ingredient list on my bottle...

    "titanium dioxide"

Would it react with that? My friend bleached her hair twice before and had no problems, though I don't know if she had any spray in or not. And the bleach didn't react for a long time-I was a little over halfway done with my head before it started sizzling. None of the rest of my head sizzled.

It certainly seems plausible although my chemistry is not good enough to say for sure.
Still, it looks like you got some great results. Post back when you go blue if you can

I'd think how much dye you'd need would depend on how thick your hair is. My hair is a little more than half your length [about all chin length, but also very thick] and I dyed my hair green using SFX Limelight [also 4 oz. ]...I literally had to cut the bottle open and scrape the little dye left over out of the bottle just so that I had barely enough...I was deffinitely worried. But it ended up working.

    ...happy dying...

when i bleach my hair it always gives off heat. never any sizzling noise, but definitely heat. you should definitely have enough dye.

Be very open and honest with who and what you are. If people still like you, fine, if not, that's their problem.

I've bleached virgin, unnatural dyed, and natural dyed hair with both 20 and 40 bleach... the 20 never reacts, but the 40 always heats and sometimes does "Sizzle"... bubbles up and what not. The only time I've had problems with it is once on my friend's unnaturally red hair, one patch in the center of her head got extremely weakened. But that was 40 for almost an hour.
