Ok took me some time to get a picture. It was taken with my sister's professional camera, which for some reason always refuses to show the colours how they really are.

Anyway, I think you can see that there's a lot of variation in the colours on my hair. The bottom part that looks brown is how the sides of my hair are, too. Not all of it, it's mingled with some lighter pink, but most of it from my ears down is like that.

Unfortunately my hair tends to "shine" in pictures and as a result the colours don't come up properly. I have a sideways picture too, but it looks too shiny to understand the colour.

It's pretty brown and I wonder if I need to take more drastic measures to lighten it.

Fortunately, after lots of conditioning, my hair feels soft again.

Hmm it does look like perhaps some areas were not bleached enough. If you can view your hair under UV light it should show up any dark areas. I used to do that when I had white hair to see which areas needed more bleach.

If the parts that look brownish are the parts that weren't bleached enough, then I won't have much trouble spotting them. I'll try the trick with the UV light, but I'm not sure if I can find any.

What do you think I should use to lighten those parts? Normal bleach? 20, 30 volume?

I'm sorry for all these questions, I just don't have much experience bleaching.

If you can get your hair all sectioned out and will be able to apply the bleach quickly then I'd go for 30 volume so you can be sure that it lightens enough, but if you think it will take you a long time to apply the bleach 20 volume will be more forgiving.

Thanks! I'll give it a try and see how it goes. I'll probably use 30 volume, as I don't think 20 volume does much to lighten my hair.

I'll section my hair and have someone (probably my boyfriend) help me out, so I hope it'll go ok.

Hmmm, so I bleached my hair (only the bottom half that was brown), using 30 volume bleach. I left the bleach on for about 30 minutes and the front parts about 10 minutes less because I put the bleach on by myself and didn't want to overprocess the back.

So, anyway, what I got was parts blonde and parts...green. Actually most of the hair that was brown turned greenish, some parts pretty bright green, too. The parts that were lighter brown, I suppose, are the parts that turned blonde with a greenish tint. It's lighter than it was before, at least. :p

I guess that's some sort of weird reaction with existing/leftover colours?

I kinda like it weirdly enough (pink looks good with green :p), but I don't really want to keep it like this. What can I do about the green? I'm afraid that if I put a colour on top it will create another weird colour. :S

At least my hair is soft and shiny (although a bit tired), yay for my conditioner!

(PS And to think I wanted to try green but didn't think it'll work on my haircolour :p)

Some purples go green. Directions plum went green for me one time when I didn't let it fade much before bleaching it out. It was easily dyed over though. Maybe that's what happened?
If it's a pale green most colours will cover it. If in doubt try a strand test.

Ah, maybe it's that Purple Haze that caused my hair to go brown in the first place... It was on my hair for 5 months, how long did I have to let it to fade?:S

Some parts are greenish/blonde but some parts look a lot more green. I put some cyclamen on a strand and the part that was lighter greenish came out a nice bright fuchsia colour, but the part that was green (a weird muddy green, think radioactive swamps), came out dark and a little brownish. I'm afraid that covering it up will cause it to turn brown again eventually with colour changes.

Do you think I can get away with bleaching those parts again? Maybe I can lighten it a bit more and get a more uniform colour. :S

Edit: Just my bad luck! As I was going to do a strand test with some turquoise, somehow the pot fell from the sink where I'd left it and spilled a lot of the dye in the sink. :/ So I scooped some of the dye with the brush and dyed most of the parts that I was going to dye turquoise. I hadn't even prepared my hair... a waste of dye!
