i always go to this little barbershop in arbroath called Ians. its great. Ive been going since i was five or six (since i was in the rainbows) and ive had the same person cut my hair for the past 10 years.

every time i go in Ian asks "well, what colour is it this time?"

I used to go to a salon with my mum and you had to book ages in advance and then when you got there you had to sit for about half an hour (i was always causing mischeif XD). It cost loads just so that i could get my hair cut, and i was just a little kid!

im such a punk ass kid but i know everyone

I actually go to a real babershop. There are no appointments, no fancy anything (except cable tv & magazines, thank heavens for little things). First come, first served...sometimes there are a lot of people (mostly old men) waiting. Most of the time she doesn't charge me, or she charges me a ridiculous price like $5 (regular cuts are $9...which is still cheap). I always tip. She's a nice lady who likes the paranormal, so we get a along really good. She also used to be "punk before there was punk" and had a (her words) Vulcan haircut..

well i used to hate going to a salon to actually "get my hair done" because my aunt is a hair dresser and thats who i would go to. it was terrible because since shes related to me she felt that she had some sort of dictation over what i wanted to do to my hair. like she refused to dye it black and refused to do any unnatural colors.

however, i stopped going to her about 4 or 5 years ago and have since been going to a wonderful salon and the girl who does my hair is amazing. Shes pretty young and says im her breath of fresh air(For prom she was so bored with updos all day she wanted to put pink in my hair--of course i didnt refuse). i can take her anything and shell do it. actually this wednesday im having her put a coontail in my hair and dye it pink. Im taking her the article from haircrazy actually :). Its pretty expensive and im normally there for a minimum of 4 hours(sometimes up to 6 or 7) but its definetly worth it.

and about the hairdressers thinking you hair is so damaged. She says my hair is damaged but then fixes it for me! and i love her for it. she has saved my hair so many times. She has tons of conditioning treatments that she puts in my hair.

Totally sucks b/c my good friend does my hair. But in all honesty, I don't like how he does it and I feel bad for telling him that. So I've picked up a few pointers from all the times he has done it. And now I'm starting to do my hair myself. But it's like, what do I say when I see him...

i'm ok with having mine done at the hairdressers now cos i finally found a hairdresser that actually does what i ask. the last one i went to cut nearly 6inches off when i asked for just the tips to be taken off. took ages to grow it back.

my current hair dresser is a bloke but he used to have long hair so atleast he knows how to do it which is cool.

Next concert: Hamburg - Apocalyptica (again) - 2nd of July

i go to the same person all the time. fairly cheap, and she does pretty much what i want(never messed with color though) she may not like what i want, but she'll do it anyway. i just have to stress that if i want chunky layers i want them CHUNKY, not barely visible.

Be very open and honest with who and what you are. If people still like you, fine, if not, that's their problem.

I've cut my hair myself before, and although I'm not awful at it, I prefer not to.

I had one hairdresser who refused to bleach my hair at all from dark brown or black. She's of the opinion that if I dye my hair dark brown or black in the first place, I have to let it grow out completely before I can have lighter hair, which I know is ridiculous because people obviously do it all the time and their hair recovers. The hairdresser I've gone to the last few times is more willing to do that. She just bleached the top of my hair from (dyed) dark brown, and I'm waiting a while to bleach it again because I'm cautious about keeping my hair in good condition, but soon I'm going to go back and get it bleached to white. It's kind of medium / butterscotch blonde right now.

One thing I don't like about the hairdresser I'm going to right now is that as far as cutting, she tends to do a slightly toned-down version of what I ask for. I often cut it a little bit more myself after I get home.

I don't like letting hairdressers do "wild" dye jobs because they tend to over-complicate processes that work just as well when done simply, like using conditioner instead of tape to make coontails, for example. When I want to do something like that, I do it myself or enlist the help of a friend if it involves areas I can't reach adequately.

Salons in LA are just terrible. I've had old ladies in Wisconsin do my hair better than /all/ the hairdressers I've had here.
Plus Wisconsin hairdressers (particularly Milwaukee and Waukesha areas) are much more tolerant of alternative colors and cuts. I've actually had one dresser ask me if I wanted purple lowlights in my new dark brown dye, before I even told her I was into alternative fashion!
When I show up for a trim here in LA, not even mentioning color, by the time I'm done I've gotten about 7 different offers, sometimes from different stylists, for color correction. It pisses me off that they give me bad fashion advice too. "Honey, if you're going to go purple or red, you should dye your eyebrows that same color. It looks strange." (I kind of giggled at that guy)
