Anyways, I have a pretty big side tattoo (it's about 10inches) and I can tell you that the hips don't hurt all that bad, but the ribs are killer so I'd try and stay lower down if I were you.
Also, all tattoos will spread a little bit as they age, whether you get pregnant or not, but I would say that you should be safe with the sizes you we talking about.

I also have a newer tattoo on my left thigh and tell you what, when they start getting closer to the inner thigh it HURTS.....but still not as bad as the ribs.
