Making a Pink 'fro

My new boyfriend/long time friend has never dyed his hair and decided to go in for the plunge. He asked me to help him since I've dyed my hair many different funky colors over the years, and have experience dyeing other people's hair as well. There was only one problem...he's black and I've NO experience with hair like that!

Usually, I use a 40 volume bleach kit, but I know that African American hair is much more likely to break than Caucasian hair, so I used volume 30...still a bit much, but I didn't figure on leaving it on long. (Boy knew the risks here, and still asked me to go ahead).

Unfortunately, I didn't section as well as i could have, so there were spots on his roots that didn't get bleached/dyed. You can see that there are a few in the front. Overall, the bleaching went well.

For the dyeing, I used (i believe) raspberry kamikaze. I kept it in his hair for about a half hour. It looked like a dark purple in the store hair sample, as well as when we put it in his hair.

Even though it turned out lighter than we expected, we were both pleased about the results. Some things that could have gone better? Sectioning! Y'all warned me, but I still didn't do it well enough. And of course, the dye probably could have stayed in longer. However, it went rather well overall -- much much better than it could have! I was pleased. And even more importantly, so was he.
