  • So I applied some very diluted (with water) Blue Velvet to the top three or four inches of my hair. Then I just let it bleed when I washed it, and this was the result. I like it quite a bit, and have gotten a lot of compliments on the particular shade of blue. It probably helps that I dye my eyebrows black and wear different make-up to keep it from looking completely incongruent on me - I'm naturally a redhead with red eyebrows and freckly skin.
  • August 14

  • So as this stuff has faded, I've added yellow to some of the lighter blue sections to make more green, and I darkened some of the blue areas, and I applied more atomic pink to the ends to make purple. Although it looks more washed out in this pic than it really is, due to the light exposure, I think.

  • July 27

  • In the sunlight. Makes me look a little washed out, but it's the best way to really see the colors. I should mention that I diluted the Blue Velvet with water and a little MP Shocking Blue, simply because I don't want SF's staying power - I get bored much too quickly.
  • July 26

  • So I couldn't take it anymore - I added random chunks of fishbowl and blue velvet all over my pinkish-bluish-greenish mess. Where you see purple on the tips is from the old atomic pink. The green is from yellow leftovers that got bled onto. I love it.
  • July 25

  • With my natural curl.

I would probably like it more if the pink and yellow were less faded, but I refuse to recolor them because I eventually want to do blue all over and want my hair as light as possible when I do so. In fact, this whole thing started out as test strands for blue, and it got a little out of hand.
  • July 23

  • Mixed a little bit of Blue Velvet in with Shocking blue and added some streaks to my previous yellow and Atomic Pink. I am still not sure what I think of it, except that it's....interesting.
  • July 05

  • So, Hi Octane Orange turns yellow when you bleach it. (We see how long the "trying not to bleach" lasted....) I actually really like it a lot.
  • June 19

  • June 17

  • Ok, so this is totally unedited! The flash on my camera really showed all the different tonalities in my haircolor. I had Hi Octane orange all over, and of course my ends faded very quickly, so I mixed up a little bit of Virgin Rose with a lot of Atomic pink and applied it to my ends. You can still see a little bit of the yellowish orange where there was fading, but I really like the overall effect.
  • June 04

  • my roots are a bit darker since I am trying to stop bleaching for now. I like the overall effect. it came out a little more even on the ends than the napalm orange, but that may be because I've been rebuilding it with a new Redken ph level treatment.
  • May 12

  • kind of small, but a picture of the back was requested. i guess this is more the side, but i think it's roughly uniform. color is sort of dull looking here, and the shirt i am wearing is actually neon yellow, as opposed to the sort of pastel color it looks, so that should give you an idea of how much brighter my hair actually is.
  • May 11

  • This captures the brightness of my hair right now most accurately. It's pretty blinding. I love it.
  • May 09

  • I mixed electric banana and pillarbox red together to make a bright orange. however, i ended up with a few different shades of orange just due to the damage and porosity level of my hair. so the roots are much brighter, and the ends are basically yellow. i threw in a few streaks of napalm orange, with roughly similar effects. the bottom layer is just pillarbox red.
  • April 03

  • green and blue were done with Joico Semi Permanent colors.
  • April 02

  • for the green and blue, i used Joico's semi permanent green and blue.
  • March 05

  • red on bottom, orange in the middle, yellow on upper middle, and blonde on top. used joico cream bleach for a soapcap on top for the platinum.
  • February 01

  • obviously, i used other colors besides the napalm orange.
manic panic - hot hot pink, electric banana, wildfire;
pravana - blue, purple;
joico - green, turquoise;
redken - 1N (for the stars on the extension)
  • January 24

  • "this is a combination of manic panic (hot hot pink, electric banana), special effects (napalm orange), pravana (blue, purple), and joico (green). and blonde, of course, by Joico."
  • January 22

  • from above.
  • this is a combination of manic panic (pink, yellow), special effects (orange), pravana (blue, purple), and joico (green). and blonde, of course.
  • 2009

  • December 03

  • Soap capped as much of the old color out as I could, then added 40 vol. Joico bleach in random foils throughout. Added streaks of Pravana's purple.
  • October 31

  • A halloween pic, with my son, a punk rocker. I added numerous clip on extensions that I made to my already yellow, orange, and red hair. They were all random and different colors, and you can see one of the rainbow striped ones near my bangs. Colored mostly with Manic Panic, and bits and pieces of other colors. For the red in my son's hair, i just used spray on color from Sally's.
  • October 29

  • same colors as below.
  • October 26

  • Yellow and Red, with a streak of Joico green in my bangs.
  • October 12

  • Fading orange.
  • September 29

  • Better lighting than previous pic. same stuff.
  • Napalm orange on the top layer, manic panic wildfire on the middle layer, and manic panic vampire red on the very bottom, altho you can't see it that great due to the darkness of the photo.
  • September 03

  • from the side.
  • Redken hi-fusion yellow and 30 vol. on roots, Pravana green, and Joico blue on ends.
  • August 29

  • August 23

  • Joico blue, Joico Purple, Pravana green on pre-lightened highlights.
  • August 02

  • Manic panic after midnight blue, Joico green, Joico blue, and Pravana purple. Highlights on dark brown (level 2-3) hair.
  • June 10

  • Rainbow bangs, and various colored highlights all throughout dark brown hair. Manic Panic Midnight blue and Hot Hot pink, Redken hi-fusion yellow (and 30 vol), Redken hi-fusion orange (and 20 vol), Joico green, Joico Blue, and Joico purple.
  • June 06

  • phase one. I added colored streaks first. i also used Joico blue, Joico green, Joico purple, Redken Yellow, Redken Orange, and Redken Red.

phase two will consist of dying my auburn hair dark brown (not the streaks).
  • March 13

  • Not alternative color, really, but an interim color I'm keeping while we travel to Mexico (trying to look less tourist-y). Will prolly gradually change the orange streaks to red, and go from there. Might experiment with some greens and blues. You'll know if I do!
  • February 01

  • Actually, a bit darker than my natural color - I'm about a level 7-8 red, and this is more like a 6. Professional color, Redken Color Fusion 6RC, 8RC, with a little Orange amplifier added. And obviously, the lighting effect here was photoshopped!
  • 2008

  • December 25

  • Hot hot pink with some Redken Red Copper in the bangs and top layer. I thought it looked pretty with the contrast of the blue flower.
  • November 06

  • Redken HiFusion Red Violet and 20 volume.
  • October 31

  • Better picture of the Hot hot pink dyed over faded red.
  • July 15

  • Top layer was Redken Orange with 20 volume, bottom layer was Joico Magenta. Not completely sure when this was taken, so I am only roughly guessing on the timeline.
  • May 15

  • This was a foil weave of Redken HiFusion Red, Red Copper, and blonde. It lifted out some of my older darker color, which technically, color isn't supposed to be able to do. Came out pretty nice.
  • January 01

  • So I started off dying my hair all over, Redken Double Fusion RC, which is the deep auburn you see on my roots. Then, I bleached out the tips to a pale orange. On top of those, I applied Redken HiFusion Red Copper (which is basically a very bright orange). I wish I had better pics of the back, because it was pretty awesome.
  • 2007

  • February 16

  • a better pic of the extensions.
  • This was my wedding. I had 18 inch extensions in, with black lowlights, and the rest was pink, to match my dress.
  • 2006

  • November 07

  • Just bleach. I kept it toned with purple conditioner.
  • October 14

  • Rainbow underlayer. The rest was blonde. Obviously.
  • April 01

  • This is actually permanent Redken color with 30 volume Joico developer (the absolute best developer EVER). I didn't have to pre-lighten my naturally red hair - it lifts and colors at the same time. A very similar result to Manic Panic's Vampire Red.
  • 2005

  • May 01

  • electric lizard on top layer of hair, after midnight blue on the bottom layer, and a few streaks of it in my bangs, on pre-lightened hair.
  • 2003

  • March 01

  • Yellow on top, orange in the middle, and you can't see it here, but there was red on the bottom. Also done during hair school.
  • 2002

  • September 14

  • Ah, yes, hair school. Manic panic Electric Lizard on the longer pieces in front, and Fudge Colors - a turquoise shade that i don't think they make anymore.
  • August 14

  • Hair school again. Gawd, I hated that ugly maroon smock. It never matched my hair.
  • 1999

  • This was actually done with Kool-Aid and mousse mixed together, left on my blonde head for 30 minutes, and then rinsed out. In highschool, when I rarely had the fund-age to buy real color.
  • July 01

  • high school.
