Comment: "i dyed my hair rainbow last year and i really miss it :(
how i did it:
(on platinum bleached hair)
i divided my hair into the 6 different sections and kept them seperated with clips. (i put an extra mirror up in my bathroom so i could see the back…if you cant do this then have someone help you section and color the back). first i colored the bottom 2 …just because it seemed easier to get them out of the way…then i colored the top 4. i kept them seperated with the clips and left the dye in for a couple hours. i applied some HEAT (via blow dryer) every 15 min for about 5-10min. i had my mom help me wash them out one by one over the bathtub. first using vinegar, then with COLD water. after i had dyed it i didnt wash it for a week….just conditioner. when i did use shampoo i shampooed each section individually so they wouldnt run into each other (because, obviously they are semi permanent,so some of the color comes out every time youwash it!) and i washed it in COLD water. I found that the special effects dyes faded in this order: green blue orange purple, manic panic yellow, and pink. The pink didnt fade much at all (it even stayed bright through bleaching), but the green and the blue were noticably dull after the first 2 weeks.
FYI: Heat expands the shaft allowing more color/product/whatever you are applying to enter the shaft (in the case of blow dyring) If you are washing with HOT water, more color will wash out -as the shaft is OPEN.
Cold closes the shaft, thus (in this case)preventing more color from washing out."
